Leonardo DRS hosts 'Purple Up' day for military children

Arlington, VA  28 April 2020 09:00

Leonardo DRS Inc., announced today that it will grant up to $10,000 in contributions to support programs for children of military families undergoing physical and emotional treatments. To celebrate the “Month of the Military Child,” the company will donate $5 for every person participating in its online "Purple Up!" campaign, up to $10,000, beginning April 28.

The proceeds will go to the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF). The goal is to raise money for a creative art therapy program dedicated to the quality of life and self-esteem of children of military families undergoing physical and emotional treatments. HJF, with the help of Tracy’s Kids, employs a pediatric oncology creative art therapist at a military treatment facility.

To help Leonardo DRS reach its $10,000 goal, participants of “Purple Up!’ can visit the company’s Virtual Tech Expo Series: Naval Forces at www.LeonardoDRS.com/naval-forces starting from today and go to the “Operation Purple Up!” area of the exhibit.  Participants can learn about the art therapy program and view an art gallery of military children’s artwork. From the site, participants can select the link to visit the “Operation Purple Up!” page and just for that Leonardo DRS will contribute $5 to the children’s’ program.

Leonardo DRS and HJF employees will also help raise money by wearing purple and sharing photos of their support on social media with the #PurpleUpforMilitaryKids.

"The children of military members make the sacrifice of sharing their mothers and fathers in service to the nation. HJF is proud to honor these children in partnership with Leonardo DRS," said HJF President and CEO Dr. Joseph Caravalho. “We appreciate the contribution Leonardo DRS is making to enable HJF to support military children.”

"We are proud to partner with HJF on this important initiative to help the children of our men and women in the armed forces," said William J. Lynn, Leonardo DRS CEO. "We are pleased to support a program that focuses on this needed therapy for children whose parents do so much for our country."
